Big Fat Loser

The diary of a morbidly obese man living in the UK, who is determined to get down to a normal size and weight by losing over 10 stone. This blog will be used to track my progress - or lack thereof - towards health and (hopefully) happiness.

Hidden shame

I noticed the other day, as I was drying myself after a shower, that I appear to have developed something that is generally more readily associated with older women. That is, I appear to have developed bingo wings on my upper arms.

As I have lost weight, the chunky solid fat that used to give my arms a more solid appearance has diminished, so that I'm left with loose skin that noticeably sags when I lift my arm up.

Thank goodness I'm a guy, and therefore am not driven by the fashion necessity to wear sleeveless tops during the summer. I can safely cover up the tops of my arms with t-shirts, and hide my bingo wing shame from everyone around me - at least until I can work out some kind of upper-body exercise that will help tone up my arms.

Resistance training has helped me some with the wing problem. Vainity can some times help in staying motivated to get fit, but it can also make you feel crappy at times. Hang in there.

Hi...I found your blog and overall I wanted to tell you that it is quite interesting. However, I do have to ask why you chose to use the phrase, "thank goodness I am a guy, and therefore am not driven by the fashion necessity to wear sleeveless tops during the summer.

What difference does it make if you are male or female if there is a body part that you want to work on? I am a female and I don't wear anything that makes me feel bad about my body, regardless if it is trendy or not. I don't happen to have the "bingo wing" problem you describe but I certainly have other problem areas. Midriff showing tops are all the rage now but I certainly wouldn't slip one over my head!

Good luck with your weight loss journey and I hope at least part of your post was in jest. There is nothing you should be ashamed of on your body, expecially when you are working so hard to change it.

Positive body image is everything!!

Have a great day! :o)

Got a laff out of your entry - I believe you have flabby tricepts. go to this site for some exercises that will help:

http://exercise.about.com/cs/weightlifting/l/blsampletricep.htm

If this reference deosn't work, just google "triceps free weights". I do the particular exercise called the tricepts extension - though I sit on a chair and not a big round ball. Anyway, you will need something that weights maybe 5 pounds and work your way up. This exercise will get rid of those flaps quickly

good luck
Bob
